The community is approaching – intern tests have begun

By Daniel

How cool: The network and community function is ready. Jens has put his nose to the grindstone throughout the last weeks and has done a great job. Since last week our tests have begun. Our whole team is testing the functions now (the so called “private beta”) and then, after a few bugfixes, the function will be available to the public. Presumably in the first weeks of may. Here I’ll already introduce this function to you:

We’re staring with a basic, but quite simple and practical fuctionality: create your own prifile, be able to view the profiles of others, add contacts, bulid up a network. Special about it is that its designed for the special purposes of research. Eg. You can upload and present your papers, you can indicate your research focus and thus find other academics who are doing research in the same field. A special feature is the public library of every user. If you find someone who is doing research in the same field you might find some interesting sources in his shared data. (Of course, the owner of these notes and sources has to share them first. We are very strict when it comes to terms of privacy.)

By and ny we will then add new functions: Working and discussion groups, forums, special search engines, messaging and whatever makes networking easier.

But what is very important to us: The community pillar serves the research pillar. We don’t want to be simply a social network. We want to do and ease research. The core will always be your personal knowledge management. Sharing and collaborating will be an addition. And all this will be surrounded by our research community.
