“scholarz.net” is now officially a “CO2-neutral research project.” Not only do we help scholarz doing better research. We are now also protecting the environment.
How?
At our chair we have a nice tradition that grad-students make funny birthday gifts to each other. That may start with a “Golden Heart certificate”, continue with meat vouchers (which are then jointly eaten at a barbecue ), and go on to voodoo dolls.
Although I no longer belong to the chair directly, since I am working fulltime on “scholarz.net” and the research project, I am still kindly considered by my colleagues. And this year with a, as I believe, particularly nice idea:
A rainforest certificate. They collected money and donated it to an environmental organization, which uses it to rescue a piece of rainforest. “Our” piece of wood now balances the pollution that we and the power of our servers and computers cause. We therfore are a “CO2-neutral research project.”
Great idea. Thank you guys!
